Two days one night tour

This overnight birdwatching and photography tour in Mindo Ecuador is ideal for nature lovers wanting to see a large number of birds and get the best photos possible. At Refugio Paz de Las Aves, you will have the opportunity to observe more than 100 different species of birds in a single day; our record is 155! In addition, our local guides, Angel Paz and Rodrigo Paz will accompany you on our many trails. They know every corner of the reserve and will make sure you see the largest possible number of bird species during your visit.

By staying overnight, you might also get to see unique owls such as Black-and-white Owl, Colombian Screech Owl, and Mottled Owl.

Day 1

  • 3:30pm-6:00pm: We begin with a short walk for birding and photography to the Andean Cock-of-the-rock Lek and others birds including Tanagers, Quetzals, Toucans.
  • 6:30pm: Dinner will be served at the Birding Lodge in Refugio Paz de las Aves. We can accommodate special diets.
  • 8pm: The birdwatching and photography tour includes an evening walk to look for owls close to the lodge.
Refugio Paz de las aves has more than 189 different species of birds like Antpittas, tanagers, quetzals.

Day 2

  • 5:50am: The first morning for birding and photography will include a cup of coffee with light snack.
  • 6:15am: If the first day wasn’t a successful photography session with the Andean Cock-of-the-rock, we will try again this morning. Otherwise, we will observe others birds attracted to the insects that flock to our lights near the lodge.
  • 7:30am: Angel or Rodrigo will guide us to a series of places to see and photograph Antpittas and other birds.
  • 10am: After observing the different birds, we will serve breakfast on our covered, outdoor patio with a beautiful view and access to our hummingbird garden. Breakfast includes fruit, bolón, empanada, coffee, & milk.
  • 11am to 12:00pm: If you would, we will review our checklist to confirm your bird sightings and update your life list. It’s a great way to end your tour!a
